TRUST is king!

Here's why.

Most employee complaints or lawsuits do not start from non-compliance itself. They start with lack of trust in management/owners to productively address things that are bothering employees.

On the flip side, most job terminations aren't caused by employee actions themselves, but the lack of trust that the employee will change their behaviors to become a functional member of the team.

One of the key job duties of every member of leadership is to reinforce trust in order to guide the overall company culture.

Here is a simple Employee Management Cycle to start with:

  1. Set clear expectations... whatever the topic.

  2. Train and provide resources necessary to achieve these expectations.

  3. Hold people at all levels accountable for failure to meet expectations.

  4. Intentionally review expectations to ensure they are valid/achievable.

  5. Repeat the cycle whenever necessary.

All that said... things do happen, regardless of our best efforts and intentions, but it really does help minimize complaints and lawsuits if you are compliant to start with.
